Evaluation of Source Counts and Upper Limits in Crowded Rosat Pspc Fields
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a method for determining source counts, S/N, and upper limits at speciied positions in a crowded ROSAT PSPC eld using a combination of publicly available software packages. The algorithm is based on the so-called`Local DETECT' method of source detection, and improves upon currently available software, to permit a meaningful comparison of non-detections with detected sources. We also present a recipe to obtain source counts and S/N in the case of point sources which overlap signiicantly.

A Source Detection Method for ROSAT / PSPC X - RayImages
We have developed a method based on wavelet transforms (WT) to detect sources in ROSAT PSPC X-ray images. The WT, evaluated at a set of scale parameters a, detects eeciently both point-like and extended sources. This method is especially suitable when the PSF width changes strongly across the eld of view as in PSPC images. The reliability of the algorithm is ensured even in the presence of stro...
متن کاملThe ROSAT Deep Survey I. X-ray sources in the Lockman Field
The ROSATDeep Survey in the LockmanHole is the most sensitive X-ray survey performed to date, encompassing an exposure time of 207 ksec with the PSPC and a total of 1.32 Msec with the HRI aboard ROSAT. Here we present the complete catalogue of 50 X-ray sources with PSPC fluxes (0.5-2 keV) above 5.5 × 10−15 erg cm−2 s−1. The optical identifications are discussed in an accompanying paper (Schmidt...
متن کاملPSPC spectra of six PG quasars and PHL 1657
We report results from the spectral analysis of pointed ROSAT PSPC observations of six PG quasars and the weak-bump quasar PHL 1657. Disregarding other frequency bands, the PSPC data are represented best by simple power-law source spectra (dN=dE / EΓ) with a slope Γ = 2:5 0:4 and do not show evidence for a more complex structure. However, within the limits given by statistics and systematical e...
متن کاملA search for X-ray emission from Saturn, Uranus and Neptune
We present an analysis of X-ray observations of the trans-Jovian planets Saturn, Uranus and Neptune with the ROSAT PSPC in comparison with X-ray observations of Jupiter. For the first time a marginal X-ray detection of Saturn was found and 95% confidence upper limits for Uranus and Neptune were obtained. These upper limits show that Jupiter-like X-ray luminosities can be excluded for all three ...
متن کاملX‐ray emission in powerful radio galaxies and quasars
ROSAT is the first mission to have detected X-ray emission in radio galaxies which are both powerful (/17s gHz > 1027 W Hz -1 sr -~) and distant (z > 0.4). enabling tests of "unified schemes" through a comparison of the X-ray and radio properties of powerful quasars and radio galaxies. These radio galaxies are faint in X-rays, but, nevertheless, ROSAT is capable of resolving any associated Xray...
